April has been full! We have been blessed to join calls with U.S. church teams, small groups, and friends as they prepare for upcoming summer trips. We were prayed for and encouraged by a South Carolina small group. We also hosted friends and were able to sneak away to Scotland for a family holiday during a school break. We stayed on the east coast of Scotland in a town that had more sheep than people. It was a peaceful retreat to read, recharge, and rest as a family.
We came back to Manchester with full hearts and were ready to jump back into life and ministry.
In conversations with a Christian friend in Manchester, he shared that in all his years living there, he had been approached by Jehovah’s Witnesses and Mormons, but never by an evangelical Christian. His hope and prayer is that one day that will happen. After lunch with our friend, we scheduled a day to go into the city to share the good news of Jesus with the people we encountered. The next friday, we were able to pray with 17 people and share the gospel four times. It was a sobering experience to hear about the hurt and grief people were carrying right outside of our church. The warmth of the day seemed to mirror the warmth in our conversations. Now we have 17 names we plan to pray for in the coming days.
We are encouraged and reminded that the harvest is plentiful, and we are called to pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest for laborers. We are continually amazed that God brings people to use that are in need of the gospel. He owns it all. There are people that God is preparing right here in Manchester.
Maybe you could be an answer to that prayer. Would you be willing to lay down a week, a semester, or a season of life to come be a laborer for the gospel in a foreign land? Would you see yourself as a laborer in your city, school, or workplace? In so many places, spiritual ground that was once hard and rocky is growing softer. People are hungry for hope and goodness, and as believers, we have access to that through Jesus. He is the way, the truth, and the life!
